Stobo Castle Spa Review

Stobo Castle was built in 1811 and was a family home, until the mid 1960s when it became unoccupied for nearly ten years. Bought by the Winyard family in 1975 it was extensively renovated and opened as a health spa three years later. To this day it continues to be run by the same family and has enjoyed further refurbishing culminating in the luxurious spa retreat that Stobo is today.

This grand building is without doubt a castle, complete with turrets and flagpole. Situated on a hill, with stunning views across the rolling Scottish borderlands, it has sumptuous bedrooms including the opulent 'Cashmere Suite' with it's claret colored cashmere clad walls, huge hand-painted Italian beds and even his and hers plasma TVs.

Dining is healthy but delicious, and most importantly the multi award winning Spa and health facilities are some of the best in Europe.

Stobo Castle Spa Treatments and Therapies

The treatments available at Stobo are many and varied. The common factor is that they are provided by the most highly trained of therapists and that customized programs can be tailored to take account of the individual's needs and requirements. Many of the treatments are equally suitable for men or women, but there are more than a dozen treatments designed specifically for gentlemen.

Under the heading 'body, hand and foot treatments' are a huge selection of massages, wraps, detox scrubs, facials, manicures and pedicures. Amongst them Stobo offers the Vie Collection, which are five specialized face and body massage techniques drawn from every continent in the world and incorporating up-to-the-minute skin care and anti aging products.

Guaranteed to bestow impressive results on not only your skin but your soul as well. As one might expect, Stobo Spa offers waxing, facials, peels and hairstyling. It also offers a range of alternative therapies. Some are great stalwarts of spa treatments such as Reflexology, Aromatherapy and Reiki, and also some less frequently found ones including Polarity Therapy, Kinesiology Balance, Crystal Therapy and Food Testing.

Stobo Castle Spa Facilities

A large reception area greets the visitor on arrival in the spa building. Here you can wait for treatments, enjoy refreshments in adjacent the café or browse the wonderful range of products available at the spa shop. Also on the ground floor is the pool, excise studio and changing rooms whilst upstairs there is a hair and beauty salon and fabulously equipped gymnasium. Also on both floors are a plethora of treatment rooms, 40 new ones having been added during 2003 when massive refurbishment at Stobo saw the spa facilities considerable increased.

The focal point of this sumptuous spa has to be the 25 meter ozone pool, with its loungers, glass walls and infinity edges that bring the outdoors inside. Poolside there is an aromatic steam room, and nearby can be found a Hydraspa and Laconium, ice fountain, snail shower and Rasul mud room. In a separate area there's also a large hydrotherapy pool where swan pipes massage the neck and shoulders, invigorating and de-stressing from the pressures of life.

There are a great selection of exercise classes and other activities held in the studios and elsewhere. Whether it's a walk in the grounds, aquarobics, chi-ball or pilates there are plenty of ways to keep fit. The gym and studios are staffed by personal trainers who are able to organize fitness analysis and personal training sessions along with one to one pilates, yoga and swimming coaching.
