Expert Answers To Common Questions About Spas
Q. I would love to go to a spa but can't afford it. How can I do some inexpensive treatments at home?
A. Forget about pricey spas. The ingredients for relaxing and rejuvenating treatments are right in your kitchen cabinet. Just mix them up and enjoy.
Honey-almond Hand Scrub
In a small bowl, mix 1 teaspoon olive oil, juice from half of a lemon, 2 teaspoons honey and 2 drops of almond extract. Massage into hands and wrap with a clean towel. After 15 minutes, wash with warm water.
What it does:
Smoothes and softens hands.
Hot Stone Foot Bath
Place some marbles or smooth, small clean stones from your yard into a basin and fill with hot water. Add 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder, 2 tablespoons buttermilk powder, 2 tablespoons baking soda and ⅛ teaspoon cinnamon and mix.
Put your tootsies in and roll them over the warm stones, concentrating on any achy spots, then soak.
What it does:
Soothes, revitalizes sore feet.
Ultimate Spa Soak
Draw a warm bath. Place ½ cup powdered milk, ¼ cup ground ginger and ¼ cup instant oats in cheesecloth (or a clean sock); tie closed and toss in. Add ½ cup hydrogen peroxide (3 percent) and soak yourself for at least 20 minutes.
What it does:
The milk moisturizes while hydrogen peroxide adds extra oxygen to the water; said to increase energy.
