Make Your Own Beauty Products

You can make your own beauty products when you feel like having a spa day but really can't afford it. It's true, you can enjoy the full benefits of a luxury day spa with things that most of us keep stocked in our kitchen cupboards.

Make Your Own Beauty Products

Here are a few easy recipes for easy products that really work

Candy Stripe Bath Salt

If you really want to make your own beauty products, this is an excellent recipe to start with. You'll need a cup and a half of Epsom salt (you can also use sea or kosher if you like), half a cup of baking soda, a teaspoon of mint extract or mint essential oil (highly recommend going for the essential oil), and a couple drops of red food coloring (any color can be used; be creative!).

Mix the salt and baking soda together and then add your mint product. Once it's mixed well, divide the mixture in half and add the food coloring to half. All that's left is to spoon the mixture into a jar, alternating colors. The best part; add your mixture to a hot bath for a soothing, aroma therapeutic bathing experience.

Vanilla Sugar Scrub

To make this yummy, good for your skin shower scrub you'll need; 1 cup of sugar, a quarter cup of sunflower oil (safflower or canola are also acceptable), and a tablespoon of vanilla extract. Mix your ingredients in a medium sized bowl then store the mixture in a sealable glass or plastic container.

To enjoy the benefits of your creation, massage the mixture onto your body in circular motions while taking a shower. The sugar works as a natural exfoliator- leaving you with amazingly soft skin.

Lemonade Lip Gloss

For lips that smell so good you'll want to keep licking them, you'll need a few simple household ingredients to get started. One tablespoon of petroleum jelly (also known as Vaseline), one quarter teaspoon of honey, a teaspoon of lemonade mix or lemon extract, and a drop of food coloring- we recommend red. Melt the petroleum jelly and the honey together in the microwave.

Be careful when taking it out- the mixture will be hot. Stir in your lemonade or lemon extract and add the food coloring. Blend the mixture well. Pour your concoction into a lip balm container and place in the refrigerator. Allow the balm to set for about 30 minutes or until it becomes a gel. Fun tip: you can also experiment with other extracts or mixes. To really shake things up, try a cocoa mix for a chocolaty gloss. You can even make your own beauty products to share!

Brown Sugar and Oatmeal Face Mask

To make your own beauty products, it does not get any simpler than this mask; hit your kitchen and gather the following ingredients to make your super easy face mask, one quarter cup of oatmeal, one quarter teaspoon of brown sugar, a teaspoon of honey, and 1/8 cup of water.

You'll need to grind the oatmeal to a powder in a blender then add the sugar, honey, and water. Mix the ingredients together until a paste is formed.

To use, make sure your wet your face before applying the mask. Let it set on your face for at least 15 minutes (during which time you will look like the swamp thing), then rinse thoroughly with cool water. You'll be amazed how soft and silky your skin feels after such a simple treatment. Who would have thought you could make your own beauty products and get such fabulous results?
