How To Make Your Eyes Look Bigger
Big eyes are in style, and with a few makeup tricks and techniques, everyone can create the appearance of wider, bigger eyes. The trick is in contouring, and giving the eye greater definition, longer lashes, and shape. No matter what eye shape you were born with, you can contour and highlight your eye area and create the illusion of larger eyes and make eyes look bigger.
Apply concealer to the eye area to minimize any pigment fluctuations, dark circles, and to create a solid base from which to work from. Once concealer is set, apply foundation to the face. Make sure to blend your foundation with a sponge if you use liquid foundation or a brush if it is powder.
The area surrounding your eye should be one solid color and any skin pigmentation should be concealed. After concealer and foundation has been applied, set your face with a translucent powder. Remember to blend thoroughly.
Create stand out eyebrows by using an eyebrow pencil to give your brows definition. Brush your eyebrows into the desired shape for a natural, yet dramatic effect. Always brush the thicker part of your eyebrows up, and then brush from the arch of the eyebrow to the outer area of the eye in a downward motion. Set the eyebrows with a light dusting of translucent powder.
The first step in creating the contour of your eye is to add darker colored shadow to the crease of the eye only. If you are using an eye shadow palette, the contour color is the darkest of the three.
For instance, in a violet color eye shadow palette, the base color would be violet, the highlight shadow might be iridescent lavender, and the contour would be a darker, plum color.
These principles of base, highlight, and contour apply to all eye shadow palettes. Use the contour color and apply it directly to the crease of the eye, extending from the middle of the crease of the eye, and then outward in both directions. This prevents a thick, dark line from appearing in the inside corner of the eye. After the contour has been applied, blend it thoroughly. You can give a light dusting of translucent powder to set the contour if desired.
Highlight eye shadows always have a white base. You can use white, silver or iridescent shades, and work these highlighters with any color palette you choose. Apply the highlighter from the top of the crease line, to the area where your eyebrows begin. The highlighter will cause your eyes to appear larger and lifted.
Mascara and eyeliner can be applied to the top lashes and eyelid. Use a dark color on both to create definition. If you prefer to wear liner on your lower lid, use a color lighter than the eyeliner used on the top lid. This will cause the eye to appear larger as well.
To enhance the appearance of the eye, you can apply highlighter to the top of the cheekbone, then use a dark tint to contour the cheekbone area, directly underneath the highlighter. By contouring and highlighting the cheek area, you will also give the appearance of larger eyes and make eyes look bigger.
