So you've decided it's definitely time to learn how to shave your legs. You want to flaunt that silky smooth skin that you just know is underneath all that hair, you just have no idea where to start.

How To Shave Your Legs

Asking Mama

Once you've decided you're tired of your hairy scenario, it's time to talk to mama. There is really no certain age or time that determines when you should start shaving. Many girls start shaving very young because their hair is particularly thick or dark.

The best way to approach your mom about it is to ask how old she was when she started shaving. You could also mention that the hair on your legs is making you feel insecure and that other girls your age have started and you wondered if you might too.

Shaving is a Choice, Not a Requirement

If and when you do decide to shave, it should be because you want to, not because it's what everyone else is doing. There are a ton of women who simply choose not to shave for a number of reasons. Remember that once you start shaving, you really can't stop because your hair comes back very coarse and it's obvious that you are in need of a shave. Once you've learned how to shave your legs, it's up to you to make the right choice for the right reasons.

Be In the Know

The most important part of how to shave your legs is the razor that you use. Stay away from the single blade disposable razors and don't be afraid to ask for a quality one. It doesn't have to be expensive; it just has to be good. The triple blade models that allow you to change the cartridge are an excellent choice.

Shaving your legs does not have to be an hour long ordeal. It's extremely simple once you get the hang of it. When you tackle it for the first time, just make sure you relax and give yourself plenty of time to do a good job and avoid injury.

In just a few simple steps you'll have sexy smooth legs:

  1. Make sure your legs are wet. Whether this means using a washcloth or shaving in the shower, never shave your legs dry.
  2. Lather your limbs with shave gel or cream. Do yourself a favor by using a shave gel instead of soap; it's much better for your skin and helps prevent irritation
  3. Starting at your ankle, place the razor blade-down and run it up your leg in a straight line. There is no need to apply pressure- just let the razor slide.
  4. Rinse the blade after each stroke
  5. Be extremely careful around ankles and knees (it's also perfectly fine to only shave up to the knee).
  6. Rinse your legs and pat dry (never rub).
  7. Use a moisturizer to help avoid razor burn and keep your skin from drying out

Shaving other areas of your body is not recommended. Arm and facial hair will only get darker and thicker with each shave, and once you've done it, you have to keep doing it or it looks awful. Once you've mastered how to shave your legs, you can consider other options for the rest of your hair removal needs.
