Dita Von Teese’s style is authentically vintage, and yet she is a true original from head to toe. She doesn’t just dress, she dons ensembles.
She is effortlessly gorgeous, and always styled to perfection.
To boot, this glamorous dame is almost single-handedly responsible for breathing new life into burlesque, while also bringing it front and center into mainstream pop culture.
From Heather Sweet To
The Queen of Burlesque
Dita, whose given name is Heather Sweet, spent her teen years in Orange County, CA.
It was there that she began a love affair with old movies and lacy lingerie, working as a salesgirl in a boutique and eventually becoming a buyer for the store.
In her spare time she danced ballet, and still occasionally incorporates that training into her routines by going en pointe.
Dubbed “The Queen of Burlesque,” Dita began her one woman striptease revival in 1992.
Choreographing routines with nods to old Hollywood and utilizing props like carousel horses, powder puffs, and perhaps most famously, a martini glass.
Her numbers are elaborate and run high on production value.
This former stripper is now a fashion icon, topping best dressed lists and frequently gracing the pages of Vogue and W magazine, dressed by Marc Jacobs and Christian Dior.
She possesses a sex appeal from decades gone by – smoldering while at the same time demure. There’s that laced-up heat that is irresistible, and Dita has it in spades.
Dita Is All DIY
This dame also has her own very specific fashion sense firmly in hand.
She never uses a stylist, and always does her own hair and makeup – even dyeing her naturally blonde hair black herself!
Her flawless porcelain skin, dramatic winged liner, bold red lips and signature beauty mark are classic and striking – there’s no mistaking it.
Having once studied costuming, Dita often styles her own photo shoots as well.
You’ll never catch this fashionista barefaced or in jeans and a t-shirt – she’s even full coiffed on her way to yoga!
