pirate hairstyles for women

Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's style for me! Captain Jack Sparrow and his band of rogues have ensured that pirates are gonna be the hot costume this Halloween!

So take a cue from Miss Elizabeth Swann, and let's show those swashbucklers who's boss. Alright, so you’ve found the perfect hot hot HOT pirate girl gear, from the perfect buckle boots to a skull and crossbones choker, but what are you gonna do from the neck up?

Just because Johnny Depp skipped the shower and smudged his eyeliner during his reign as Captain Jack, doesn’t mean that you can’t inject a bit of modern gal glam into your sassy pirate look!

Hair can be worn just about any way you please.  If you’ve been blessed with long, flowing tresses as voluminous as the sea itself, maybe you need no product and simply need to top off with a traditional tri-corn captain’s hat.

Another option is going for a fun stripy scarf tied around the top of your head.  Curly, straight, or wavy, maybe try a change from your usual look.  Nothing is sexier than full, beautiful hair spilling out from under a captain’s hat!  Or go sweeter with low, loose pigtails or braids.

Gals with shorter hair can also try a knotted scarf around the head, and add some huge swingy hoop earrings or gold dangly skulls for extra interest.  Maybe you want to skip the hat and scarf, and just slip some sparkly skull barrettes into your ‘do – skulls and pirate gear is in all year ‘round these days, so there will be no shortage of accessory ideas.  Or find yourself a fun wig as different from your everyday hair as you dare!  Dress-up is fun, so be daring and give it a go!

Pirate makeup is not for the faint of heart.  Go as wild and sexy as you’d like, and don’t be afraid to add a bit of sparkle or glitz.  Try a smoky eye with a glittery black shadow with heavy, smudgy eyeliner.

Accent the brow bone and inner corner with a silvery white (like MAC Nylon) to bring eyes forward.  For a little more pop, experiment with some fun, super-long false eyelashes.

Application can be a little tricky, so you may want to do a trial run.  With a black and bold eye, do costumey chic with a rich red lip, or balance things out with a glossy nude color.

If you’re still slightly makeup-phobic, try a more neutral shimmery look with bronzes and golds, channeling the sunset at sea.  Highlight strong bone structure with a glittery bronzer on cheekbones, forehead, and chin.

And if you’re still a little leery of your own makeup application abilities, relax, you’re a pirate.  If all goes south, you can always slap on a sequined eye patch.

Whatever your sexy pirate scenario, remembers to have fun and be safe, and go easy with that bottle of rum!
