Mens Skin Care
Mens skin care can seem like a foreign language to some men, but with the advent of the "metrosexuals“, more and more fellas are finally realizing how important it is to take care of themselves.
Although male skin is very different from female, both skin care regimes are rather similar.
A good mens skin care regime for all skin types starts with cleansing, preferably a water soluble cleanser, and please, save the soap for your hands. Cleansing helps remove the dirt, grease and pollutants from the skin and helps prevent clogged pores.
Male skin tends to be a bit oilier than female skin, .so cleansing is even more important. Cleansing should be done at least once every day, even better if it is done twice a day.
Shaving is a key aspect of skin care for a male. Splurge on good quality razors, and skip the disposables.
Mens Skin Care Shaving Tips
Swivel-head razors are ideal, since they are known to reduce cuts, or treat yourself to a retro-cool double edged razor.
Whichever razor you choose, be gentle when shaving, and do not rake it across your skin, instead use a soft and smooth action. You want to remove hair, not skin!
Finish off with an alcohol-free aftershave, preferably one packed with soothing ingredients. For a more indulgent shave, please check out our Perfect Shave article.
Male skin is generally thicker and oilier, due to larger pores and more active sebaceous glands. However, regular shaving can be quite drying to the skin, making moisturizer an integral part of this (as well as all) skin care regime.
Moisturizing gels or creams should be applied after shaving. Moisturizers should be patted gently over the face and massaged gently using upward strokes, so as not to break down skins elasticity.
For added sun protection, which is also necessary for any skincare routine, find a moisturizer with an SPF of at least 15, but preferably 30.
If your favorite is lacking one, add a separate sunscreen over the top of your moisturizer. When choosing your mens skin care products, you can never go wrong with all natural ingredients.
Lavender and tea tree oil have natural antiseptic qualities, and aloa vera and jojoba have amazing moisturizing properties.
You’re never too manly for your very own skin care regime, and it won’t increase your morning prep time by more than a few minutes. So go ahead, get ready to stay young and pretty with mens skin care ....
in the most macho way possible!
